FAQs

How do I start? What is therapy like?

The therapeutic relationship is a confidential and collaborative one. During the first few sessions, we get a chance to know one another as we take time to review your history, symptoms, and current goals. Initial paperwork and an intake discussion will help us to select a solid treatment plan to get you moving toward your goals. Personal growth is a lifelong process, and therapy is one means to make progress on specific goals.

How long will I be in therapy?

While this can vary widely, we specialize in treatments proven through research to be effective. Typically, these targeted therapeutic interventions occurs weekly and lasts between 12 and 20 sessions. Some people find it helpful to have a longer course of therapy or monthly follow-up sessions after completion, to support them in maintaining new skills. This is something we can discuss at any point during treatment, to best fit your needs.

How does therapy work?

We provide Evidence-Based Therapies (EBPs). This means they’ve been researched with real people, and shown to be effective! Therapy is an active process examining thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. Your therapist is here to support your efforts and help you to create the supportive conditions you need for growth and success.

How do I know if I’m ready?

Perhaps it’s cliché, but it truly is an act of courage to enter therapy. We want to help you reach your goals, and that means being honest: therapy is supportive, active, and requires work. Therapy is effective when you come to it with a willingness to be open and honest with your provider. And your provider will match your efforts with care, support, and specific skills. Therapy isn’t just about the time in session; it’s also putting into action what is discussed in sessions, to reach your chosen goals. Our providers will work with you. We will set you up for success, and your engagement in the process will directly impact your success.
